Crafting Urban Quality: A Story of Practice

This seminar will delve into the intricate processes through which urban qualities emerge and shape urban development, offering fresh perspectives on value and quality in architectural and urban studies.

Exploring urban quality

The seminar will highlight key insights from 18 months of ethnographic fieldwork in developers', architects', and investors' offices, meeting rooms, and site visits. It will explore urban quality from intimate ethnographic observations to broader examinations of official narratives, historical context, and political-economic environments. Additionally, the research analyses how long-term investment goals shape urban life and transform 'home' into a product, service, and living experience. The strategic mobilization of cultural heritage and the future as powerful agents in the development process will also be discussed. This seminar offers a unique opportunity to gain deep insights into contemporary urban development practices and their transformative potential.
