Responsible internationalisation – how do we balance it with academic freedom?

The changing geopolitical situation, as well as challenges such as COVID, climate change and the rise of popularism, have meant that universities need to address internationalisation in a new way. As a consequence, we now often talk about 'responsible internationalisation'. But what we mean by this relatively new term.

In this open conversation we will discuss questions like:

• What does responsible internationalisation mean?
• In what ways does it support or clash with academic freedom?
• Who decides what the responsibility in internationalisation is?
• Should there be lists of "friends" and "enemies"?
• Could responsible internationalisation mean academic boycott?
• Are universities at risk?
