A scholarship can help you cover the costs of your studies at Malmö University. There are a number of scholarships available for prospective students from outside the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA).

Malmö University Master's Scholarship

Each year, Malmö University offers a limited number of scholarships to qualified master students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who are required to pay tuition fees. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, experience and motivation. They cover partial or up to the full tuition fee but do not cover other expenses, such as living expenses.

Students admitted to two-year programmes retain the scholarship for the second year if they successfully complete the first year of study and meet the progression criteria (minimum 22.5 credits a semester, minimum 45 credits an academic year).

The scholarship application round for the next academic year opens in April.

Who can apply?

Students who have applied for an English-taught master's programme and meet all of the following conditions are eligible to apply for the Malmö University Master's Scholarship:

  • Applied in the first admissions round
  • Chose an English-taught master's programme at Malmö University as their first choice on University Admissions (ranked as number 1 of 4)
  • Were admitted to their first choice programme
  • Required to pay tuition fees for university studies in Sweden

Application process

To apply for the scholarship, follow these steps:

  • Apply for one of our master’s programmes through University Admissions as your first priority. Make sure to pay the application fee to University Admissions.
  • Admitted students will receive more information on how to apply for the scholarship after Notification of Selection Results.
  • Scholarship selection will be based on previous academic excellence, the experience described in your CV, and your ability to motivate social engagement through your chosen programme at Malmö University.
  • Applicants who have been offered a scholarship will be notified by the end of April. Those who are not offered a scholarship will not be notified individually.

Please note

Only a few students are granted scholarships every year. You should, therefore, start planning for ways to finance your tuition and stay in Sweden well in advance, in case you are not awarded a scholarship. The deadline to pay tuition fees is 10 May.

More information about the application

US Student Finance

US Government Federal Programs are federal student loans for eligible students to help cover the costs of higher education at an approved university. Malmö University is a participating institution in the US Government Federal Student Aid Finance Program for bachelor’s and master's programmes.

Eligibility and application

This loan programme is only available to US citizens or eligible non-citizens attending university at least part-time, at a programme approved for Federal Student Aid.

US students may defer payments on existing federal student loan accounts while enrolled in a master’s programme. The 'Deferment Only' status does not allow students to take out federal student loans for enrolment. However, the accreditation facilitates grant and loan opportunities for US students as many private student loan institutions in the US use this designation as a requirement to grant new loans. Students who wish to defer payments must contact their lending institution in the US.

Malmö University is an accredited institution at the US Department of Education, and holds a Title IV 'Deferment Only' status (OPE ID 04301900).

To apply for a federal student loan, follow the instructions on the Federal Student Aid website.
