Swedish Language, Culture and Society I
About the course
This course is designed for students who wish to begin learning Swedish. It focuses on developing essential language skills for everyday communication, such as vocabulary building, basic grammar rules, pronunciation practice, and writing exercises.
Students will engage in a variety of learning activities such as grammar explanations, oral practice, writing tasks, and participation in language cafés.
We foster a stimulating and creative learning environment to support language acquisition. In addition to language skills, the course introduces aspects of Swedish culture and social life, which are discussed in English to deepen cultural understanding.
Upon completion, students will have achieved approximately 60% of level A1 on the Common European Framework of Reference scale (CEFR).
Course content
The student builds a simple basic vocabulary and basic grammar for oral and written everyday communication in Swedish. The course includes reading of very simple texts. In all parts, Swedish everyday life / student life is in focus.
In addition to what is covered in language teaching, Swedish culture and Swedish social life are presented and discussed in English.

Course evaluation
Malmö University provides students who participate in, or who have completed a course, with the opportunity to express their opinions and describe their experiences of the course by completing a course evaluation administered by the University. The University will compile and summarise the results of course evaluations. The University will also inform participants of the results and any decisions relating to measures taken in response to the course evaluations. The results will be made available to the students (HF 1:14).
