Research at CAKL
at CAKL
CAKL's ongoing research spans areas such as learning environments, widening participation and digital learning.
Research in pedagogy in higher education
Pedagogy in higher education deals with adult learning within the framework of higher education. Students' learning within formal learning situations is explored with an interdisciplinary approach, based on different theoretical perspectives and with different research methods.
Academic subject specialists from all over the University meet to jointly explore and design academic teaching. Ongoing research spans areas such as learning environments, professional development, broadened participation, digital learning, challenge-based learning and academic literacy.
Research conferences and seminars
CAKL arranges seminar series and participates in conferences with a focus on higher education pedagogy. The seminars are given in English via Zoom.
CAKL's research seminar about teaching and learning in higher education - spring 2026
Higher education in motion: examples, experiences, and research
Date and time: 4 Februari at 15.00–16.00
Speaker: Samuel Edelbring, Professor of Higher Education at Mälardalen University
About the seminar: In this CAKL seminar, professor Samuel Edelbring offers a personal conversation about higher education pedagogy – with practical examples, open questions, and concrete suggestions for making research-based learning understandable and feasible in practice.
When the Room Heats Up: Teaching Controversy in Sustainability Education
Date and time: 15 April at 15.00–16.00
Speaker: Jesko Schulte, senior lecturer at Blekinge Institute of Technology
About the seminar: Why do topics like meat eating, flight quotas, or nuclear power so easily spark heated debate in the classroom – and what can teachers do to turn that heat into learning? In this session, Jesko Schulte will talk about controversial issues in sustainability education. What typically lights the fuse, why they are important, and how teachers can incorporate them into their teaching. Expect both a dive into underlying theory, concrete examples, and space to reflect on your own stance on controversy, knowledge, and the purpose of education.
