Unbiased transcriptomics, 3D-cell culture and organs-on-a-chip. From applied science to basic science and back again

Speaker

Talk overview

This seminar will focus on three main themes. Initially there will be a discussion on how an unbiased transcriptomics approach following Roux-en-Y gastric bypass can highlight novel regulators of the incretin hormone GLP-1. Secondly, the benefits of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) using SPLiT-seq will be highlighted alongside how scRNAseq can be utilised to identify dysregulated gene networks in patients with type 2 diabetes. The final theme will highlight how intestinal organoids and a gut-on-a-chip platform can be used to assess animal-microbiota evolution. The main methods I will discuss during this talk are bulk RNA sequencing, scRNAseq using SPLiT-seq, intestinal organoids and the Emulate organ-on-a-chip platform.

Fika will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
