Presentation

I graduated with a degree in dentistry in 1997, obtained my specialization in orthodontics in 2008, and completed my PhD in 2011 with a doctoral thesis on salivary secretion from minor salivary glands in children. In 2020, I was appointed Associate Professor in orthodontics. Since 2008, I have been working at Malmö University, where I have held several positions within undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral education, serving as course and exam coordinator, head of the postgraduate education in orthodontics, and director of doctoral education. I have been a member of the Faculty Board and the Doctoral Education Committee. During spring 2025, I served as a senior lecturer at the University of Basel (UZB), Switzerland. Since autumn 2025, I have been Head of Section 4. My research is primarily clinical and patient-centered, aiming to strengthen the scientific evidence for diagnosis and treatment of children with malocclusions. The research includes methods to identify and reduce adverse side effects of orthodontic treatment, management of children with ectopic tooth eruption, and long-term stability following orthodontic treatment. In recent years my research concerns the patient perspective and equity in publicly funded care. We study how malocclusions and orthodontic treatment relate to OHRQoL, and the significance of factors such as gender and socioeconomic conditions. Furthermore, we investigate equity within orthodontic care and how access to care affects treatment outcomes. My research is conducted within the framework of the faculty's research profile, Advancing Oral Health.
